KICK-ASS TIPS TO CREATING GREAT CONTENT

Admit it. You have always wanted to start a blog about something and many of us have fallen into the trap of just churning out content (whether your platform is on a blog site, Instagram, or any of the other Social Media channels) for the sake of getting followers and subscribers at the expense of your blog’s or content’s identity.

Have no fear! All you need to do is regroup and remember the three essential parts of creating engaging content:

  1. A Niche by Any Other Name – this is the most important part of creating content. It’s like a giant slab of marble to a sculptor and it comes in a question that has probably stumped you when you were starting out (or is about to as you take the first step in being a content creator): what is your niche? Identify it. Find out what you are good at and find a way to present it through your content and from there, you will be able to find your right audience (a topic that I will talk about soon on a different blog entry). Like books and movies, people respond to a concept, a genre.

  1. The Composition Conundrum – once you have identified who you want to create your content for, it’s time for you to start creating. Remember, asking to be noticed online is like yelling in the middle of Mardi Gras. Your voice will always be drowned out by all the other voices. Creating great content is not about how much you put out, it’s all about how good it really is to get the king of attention it deserves. Take time to think about what you are going to post and ask yourself what you want to communicate with it.

  1. The Storytime Solution – a big part of content composition is the story. Whether you are writing a business blog or reviewing cheap burritos, there should always be a story to the post. A story sells and it is one of the best ways to connect to your audience. It doesn’t have to be highly cerebral but don’t dumb it down. Tell a story the way you would normally converse with a friend. Always remember that your audience is both smart and wants to listen to what you have to say (or see what you have to show).

Take a moment and breathe when you are stuck in front of your computer, thinking of ways to be a great content creator. Besides, art (in this case, great content) cannot be rushed. Sometimes the best ideas are the ones that you let brew for a little while until it’s ready to be consumed.
